Innovation for urban life & mobility
Bringing together businesses, citizens, public authorities, and R&D centres, Estonia has long promoted innovative city environments. Estonia was the first country to implement mobile parking almost 20 years ago. Also, public transport in Estonia is digitalised and has an interconnected ticketing system across the country. Estonia is also in the process of creating an interconnected ticketing system with Helsinki. Estonia managed to be the first country to legislate testing of autonomous delivery robots on public streets.
Estonian companies offer solutions for virtually everything that concerns mobility and smart cities, from border migration to autonomous public transportation and from nomadic job offerings to public safety. For example, Estonia made headlines in 2000, establishing a system that instantly pinpoints any mobile phone location used to make an emergency call.
